“Nature teaches us…”

…if you're willing to learn. Wilbur Niewald, legendary Kansas City artist and teacher, is 94 years of age. He paints every day and thrives on his relentless study of nature. As a teacher, he has influenced thousands of artists throughout the country on ways of seeing reality. This moving portrait of an artist inspires us to look with fresh eyes in order to truly see.

 

Director Biographies

Steve Snell and Elizabeth Stehling are visual artists that enjoy collaborating both in life and in art. They have created two short documentary films together, "Wilbur Niewald" (2019), and "A Goldfish Documentary" (2014). Steve Snell is Associate Professor of Art at the Kansas City Art Institute and his visual artwork is represented by Weinberger Fine Art in Kansas City. Elizabeth Stehling is Digital Media Manager at Kansas City Ballet. Their individual and collaborative work has been shown around the country in numerous film festivals and galleries.
